Fighting human trafficking
Human trafficking is an under-reported and under-represented crime. Fighting against this modern day slavery must be tackled and co-ordinated across borders. In 2008, Sarah Ludford MEP successfully campaigned for €2 million to be budgeted for a EU wide telephone hotline for victims of and informants on trafficking. Liz Lynne MEP spearheaded a campaign of ‘Business Travellers against Human Trafficking’. Catherine Bearder MEP is campaigning to raise awareness of human trafficking ahead of the 2012 Olympics in London.
