Fish for the Future
The EU’s Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) must be radically reformed to stop the overexploitation of Europe’s resources at sea: currently around 80% of fisheries are being fished unsustainably and there are too many boats chasing too few fish.
It has become clear that the current CFP has failed to achieve environmental, economic and social sustainability. In addition to that, it is complex to administer, difficult to enforce, and much too costly in relation to the economic gains generated by the sector.
Chris Davies MEP has set up a cross-party campaign group of MEPs who want to support ambitious reform of the Common Fisheries Policy. The aim will be to introduce a sustainable approach that can put more fish in the seas and provide secure jobs for fishermen.
