“The message from manufacturers is clear: in Europe, in work. Our priority should be creating more jobs by reforming the EU, not putting them at risk by pulling out.”
Danny Alexander, Liberal Democrat Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said:
“Entertaining the idea of UK exit from the EU risks throwing our recovery away. Our focus must be on jobs and growth.
“That means staying in the EU and leading in EU to deliver the reforms that will further entrench the recovery to deliver a stronger economy.
“Businesses know it, responsible politicians must listen to them.”
The EEF report, ‘Manufacturing: Our Future in Europe,’ can be found here. It finds that 85% of UK manufacturing firms support EU membership. Three in five manufacturers contacted by the EEF said they believe the government should focus on improving competitiveness across Europe rather than negotiate special deals or opt-outs for Britain.
